PCC

The Parochial Church Council (PCC)

The PCC is the senior decision-making body within Christ Church on all matters except worship, which is reserved to incumbent in consultation with the PCC. PCCs are charities but, in place of the usual constitutional documents, they are governed by two pieces of Church of England legislation, called Measures.

As a registered charity since 2009, information about the PCC (including the accounts and annual report as received by the Annual Church Meeting) is available on the Charity Commission website by clicking here. Alternatively, go to www.charity-commission.gov.uk where the PCC may be found as Charity No 1127945.

Committees

The PCC is supported in its work by the following Committees and Groups. The Business & Resources Committee is made up entirely of PCC members. The remainder include both PCC members and others from the congregations with relevant expertise.

The Business & Resources Committee (chaired as for the PCC) which: ensures that appropriate preparations are made to enable the PCC’s consideration of agenda items to be informed and productive; co-ordinates the work of the expert Finance and Premises Groups; and is empowered to act on the PCC’s behalf on particularly urgent matters.

The Finance Group (chaired by June Skinner) which assists the PCC on finance matters, in particular on using our financial resources to best effect.

The Premises Group (chaired by Jim Smith) which assists the PCC in securing the cost-effective maintenance of the church’s structure and fabric.

The Missions Group (chaired by Anne Sturton) which oversees the operation of the “championship” arrangements and various other mission activities.

Meetings

The PCC’s routine meetings are held every other month (except August). The first is held immediately after the Annual Church Meeting in April (at which elections refresh the membership) to put in place various key matters for the new PCC year. Subsequent meetings (in June, September, November, January and March – the last being to prepare for the next Annual Church Meeting) are generally held on the second Monday of the month (in the Church Hall beginning at 8pm). Other meetings may, of course, be arranged as necessary. Agendas for PCC meetings are displayed on the notice board at Christ Church for two Sundays beforehand. Full minutes of the most recent PCC meeting (in draft, to avoid the wait for the next meeting) are also displayed there together with a one-page summary of the main issues discussed. Each summary is published in the next edition of Christ Church News – and summaries of recent meetings and an archive of previous years are available from the links below.
