Going Deeper

Church isn’t just about Sunday services – it’s about learning and growing together and allowing the love of Christ to fill our lives. But it can take a lifetime to get there.

Maybe you’re just curious about the Christian faith. Or perhaps you’ve been coming to church for a while but want to learn a bit more and dig a bit deeper. Or maybe you want to enrich your life by looking more closely at the Bible and deepening your prayer life.

Wherever you’re at, Christ Church welcomes you and hopes to offer something that will interest and satisfy you.

Our regular Sunday services aim to equip and enrich people in their daily walk with God through the sermons/talks, liturgy, prayers and music, which all reflect a theme or the lectionary and help us to go deeper – as do our fellowship and our conversations with one another. However, there are other specific groups or activities that particularly encourage and nurture discipleship too, including:

Alpha Courses

For the curious and the questioning, a chance to look for answers to life’s big questions. Also good for new Christians and for those who may have been going to church for many years but would like to reconnect with the heart of the Gospels.

Alpha usually runs a couple of times a year and is a fantastic way to meet people, share your thoughts in an open and relaxed setting, and consider the core teachings of Christianity in a contemporary, relevant way.

Home Groups

Home groups help members develop together as disciples of Christ, meeting regularly to get to know God and each other better as they explore the Bible in a safe and supportive environment.

Groups are open to all and offer a warm welcome. There is a choice of daytime or evening, in person or via Zoom.

Vision Prayer Group

The Vision Prayer Group meets monthly via Zoom to pray based on a list of biddings, praying for all aspects of life at Christ Church and for our local community, and to have some quiet time to try to listen to what the Lord wants.

During the quiet time, members write down any thoughts they have and send them afterwards to the coordinator who sends the composite to the clergy, the churchwardens, and all members of the group.

New members are very welcome, so if you are comfortable praying aloud and in being quiet before the Lord, and are happy with Zoom meetings, the group would love to hear from you.

Occasional Courses

So far in 2025, Christ Church has held a Listening to God course open to all, and a Prayer Ministry course for those interested in finding out about Christian healing and why the church is called to this ministry.

Every year there is a whole-church Lent Course – this year’s theme explored how the Bible came to be written and how a collection of ancient Hebrew texts can be relevant to life today.

There is also a library of Christian books at the back of the church for people to borrow for personal use. We also promote Christian conferences, retreats and festivals throughout the year.
